Jeffrey Pine under the Stars, Olmsted Point, Yosemite National Park

from $30.00

I made this photograph on my first night of astrophotography with my Nikon Z7 mirrorless camera. After photographing two other scenes in the Yosemite high country, I remembered that I had brought a portable flash unit with me. If I could find a good foreground subject, I could illuminate it with the flash.

I drove further west to Olmsted Point. This solitary Jeffrey pine stands atop a ridge overlooking the parking lot. It took several attempts to figure out the right composition. Soon enough I had all the elements in place and snapped a final exposure.
